Field service operations would be completely different if we took our cues from the Harry Potter stories. There were few things Harry cherished more than his cloak of invisibility. Under its spell, Harry, Ron, and Hermione could zip around Hogwarts undetected so they could...well, no spoilers here. Suffice it to say that without the ability to roam about unseen, there might well have been no sequels after the first book.
On the other hand, Harry and friends also made good use of the “Marauder’s Map,” a magical device that provided a real-time, dynamically updated view of who was up to various kinds of mischief. Between the invisibility cloak and the Marauder’s Map, Harry was fortunate enough to enjoy the best of both worlds. He could keep himself apprised about everybody else’s movements while keeping himself off of everybody else’s radar.
But outside of the wizarding world of Hogwarts, invisibility is nearly impossible to achieve -- and it’s generally extremely undesirable. On the other hand, here in the real world, it turns out that the ability to see what’s going on all about you -- and to communicate that information throughout your operation -- is extremely useful.
In fact, field service organizations that have improved visibility across their operations will see improvements in key metrics, like first-time fix rates, SLA improvements, and faster mean time to resolution. We have a new ebook that will help you diagnose visibility issues, uncover the root causes impairing your visibility, and learn how you can benefit from improving your visibility. (And just for fun, you’ll find out about new technologies that provide real-world invisibility, and discover which superpower is more appealing to most business leaders: flying or invisibility.)
